North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher

As you move on to the upper level, you will encounter displays of seahorses, ocean turtles and other sea life that inhabit the offshore shoals of the North Carolina Coast. Jellyfish and corals are amoung the inhabitants here, and these exhibits provide valuable educational opportunities for parents and teachers alike. There's also a great exhibit that explains the hurricanes of the coast, with charts and photographs of the most infamous storms in recorded history.

The aquarium also features a Pacific Reef with giant clams, corals, and anemones as well as an Exotic Aquatics of the Indo-Pacific Oceans ehibit, where you'll see such oddities as cuttlefish and red lionfish.

Take time on your visit to enjoy the daily programs such as a fossil hunt and live animal presentations that may include alligators, turtles, and snakes. There are also special activities you can sign up for, such as saltwater marsh and crabbing expeditions and a surf-fishing workshop. Just visiting the exhibits can take hours and will provide an enjoyable trip, but if you have the extra time, these special activities provide loads of extra fun.

The aquarium at Fort Fisher also holds several special events, such as a behind the scenes tour and "Dinner with the Fishes." Plan ahead, and you can advantage of these special events, although they certainly aren't necessary to have a fantastic visit.

With special daily feeding times and a great staff that are always delighted to explain and answer questions, you'll find your trip to be not only enjoyable but extremely entertaining. An extremely popular tourist attraction, the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is a surefire hit on any vacation need-to-visit list.
