The Bar-B-Que House is a favorite local destination for southern food fans to load up on plates of barbecue, southern sides, and all the fixins’. Located along East Oak Island Drive, just a couple blocks away from the beach, this small but hefty little restaurant has everything BBQ fans require for a full meal, and then some.
The restaurant is tucked away in between several rental homes and businesses, but is hard to miss due to its roadside sign and often full parking lot. The interior is large enough for a handful of tables, and the atmosphere is ultra-casual with plastic plates and disposable cups and utensils. This informal environment allows the food to shine, and BBQ fans will find all their favorites on the menu, including hickory smoked chopped BBQ pork, fried chicken, pork ribs, chicken strips and wings, and Brunswick Stew. There’s also a nice array of sandwiches, including burgers, grilled cheese, and hot dogs or corn dogs, as well as more than a dozen classic side dishes, such as fried okra, corn nuggets, homemade potato salad, traditional white slaw, and “BBQ Style ‘Red’ Slaw.” With lots to choose from, and a full overview of all the barbecue staples, Bar-B-Que House provides a great introduction to classic and casual southern cuisine.
