Visitors can dive into Wilmington’s famed theater scene on a small and intimate scale with a visit to the aptly named Red Barn Studio Theatre. This 50-seat theater is the place to go to see local talents before they become famous, and it hosts a wealth of plays, dramas, and performances throughout the year to the delight of local and vacationing patrons alike.
The theater is located just outside the heart of the downtown area, and is found within a small red structure along a quieter second of Third Street. In this small venue, patrons will be treated to a wide range of performances that showcase the local talent at its best, and which can include everything from classics like “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” to more modern plays that are making waves in the off-Broadway districts. Veritably every month has a new performance on the schedule, and shows are hosted by regional theater groups and organizations, like the local improv group Pineapple-Shaped Lamps. Operated under the wing of the famed Thalian Hall Theater, and offering the same amazing performances but on a much smaller scale, the Red Barn Theater is a fine destination for visitors to uncover a new and more intimate side of Wilmington’s theater scene.
