Sunset Beach is located on the southernmost barrier island on the North Carolina coastline. It is a calming three mile long island with wide powdery white sand beaches that is unspoiled by commercial development. Sunset Beach is widely viewed as one of the cleanest, family aligned beaches on the east coast. Its white sandy beaches are a great place to sunbathe, walk, ride a bicycle, jog or just sit and relax while watching the boats and the dolphins come and go. Bird Island is also located on the west end of the island. Bird Island is a pristine, undeveloped 1300 acre state preserve that is home to loggerhead turtles and the Purple Sandpiper found only on Bird Island. This end of the beach is very roomy, peaceful and peaceful and provides definitely striking unobstructed vistas of the ocean, marsh and the impressive sunsets for which Sunset is known.
