• Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
• Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
• Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
• Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
• Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
• Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
• Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
