Located on a private waterfront lot, Heron’s Hideaway has three bedroom, two baths and a backyard that in the evenings lights up like a movie set. This family friendly home is located just a fast bicycle ride away from the pretty beaches of Oak Island, eateries, shopping and groceries. It features a fenced-in yard huge enough to keep any pup happy and entertained. Watch the sunset from the fishing pier as you listen to the shrimp jump and the sounds of the tide flowing in and out. Launch kayaks from the floating dock and discover the peaceful, serene, wildlife-filled Davis Canal where the blue herons fly overhead. Use the crab pot or cast out a few fishing lines to catch your own dinner - and don’t forget to ring the bell when you make your big catch. Savor yourself under the shady oaks of the sizable backyard. Put an umbrella in your drink and grab a book as you relax on the back deck. Rest on the swing hanging on the crooked oak tree - it is the ideal place to savor a cup of hot coffee in the morning as you look out over the canal or stargaze with the fireflies in the evening. Roasting marshmallows over the constructed in bonfire pit is the ideal end to a calming day spent exploring Oak Island. Special note for boat owners: The dock and floating Roll and Ride shown in the photos can certainly support canoes, kayaks, John-boats and modest fishing boats up to 14ft long/8ft wide/2k lbs that can be used in shallow water. Please be advised at low tide the canal can get as shallow as 2-3 feet.
Having said this, there is ample space in the 100ft long driveway to park your boat trailer and drive to one of the many boat launches all over the island. You can quickly be out on the ICW (inter coastal waterway) which gives you water access to the Atlantic Ocean, Lockwood Folly River, Southport or Baldhead Island.

NOTE: As of 4/1/23 from Apr-Sept Oak Island has implemented parking costs, similar to our neighboring beaches, from 9 am-5 pm for all beach parking.
NOTE: there are two security cameras—one in the front yard and one in the back yard.

About the Area

Located on the waterfront, this vacation home is in Long Beach, a neighborhood in Oak Island. Oak Island Lighthouse and Bald Head Island Lighthouse are local landmarks, and some of the area's attractions include Bald Head Island Information Center and North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. Magic Mountain Fun Park and North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Carolina Beach restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses.   • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review.
