Smith Island Museum of History and North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport are cultural highlights, and some of the area's landmarks include Bald Head Island Lighthouse and Oak Island Lighthouse. Bald Head Island Information Center and North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher are also worth visiting.

When to book a Carolina Beach rental home & When to go:

To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.

Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
