Our top Vacation rental tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Carolina Beach area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Carolina Beach attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Carolina Beach visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting and booking your prefectrental:

  • First, have your family agree to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Cottage at Scotch Bonnet
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
